How is the unit delivered?

Training is delivered via face to face training and assessment.

Unit Duration: This unit is designed to be completed in up to 3 days.

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 24 hours, depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn in PMBWELD301E?

This unit is designed to develop your expertise in industrial welding. Among others, you will learn to:

  • Identify materials as being compatible for welding
  • Calculate appropriate pipe welding parameters
  • Maintain and calibrate welding equipment
  • Perform welding to required standard
  • Assess quality of completed joints

You will also learn basic chainsaw safety to satisfy the duty of care when cutting the pipework.


How is the unit structured?

All learners will be assessed through a combination of the following assessment methods:

  • Face to face training delivery
  • Trainer demonstration and Return demonstration
  • Self-paced learning
  • Scenario-based assessments
  • Practical skills demonstration assessments
  • Questioning – Written or Verbal

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal pre-requisite requirements for this unit of competency according to the training package requirements.


What are the resources needed to complete the unit?

    • Measurement devices, including:
      • Pressure gauges

    • Spray equipment
  • Additional tools and equipment will be selected as required from:
    • Hand tools used in this process
    • Hoists/lifting equipment not requiring any special permits or licences
    • Manual handling aids, such as hand carts and trolleys
  • The following personal protective equipment:
    • Safety glasses/goggles
    • Earmuffs/earplugs
    • Safety gloves

To complete your unit, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • Internet access through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
    • Long pants
    • Long sleeves
    • Steel capped boots

  • Onsite parking is limited at the PSAH Training and Recruitment Pty Ltd facility but there is parking available on Robson Street

What you need on the day of the course

For classes, students will need to bring a valid drivers licence or valid form of Identification (Government issued I.D. card), ensure they are fit to work and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and MUST supply their own lunch.

Due to the high-risk nature of the unit, RPL pathway is identical to the Assessment Only Pathway,
where students are required to complete the assessment activities as a challenge test of their existing knowledge and skills competency.
