PSAH Training and recruitment Pty Ltd conduct a 1-day biannual REFRESHER course for PMBWELD301 – Butt weld polyethylene plastic pipelines required by the Plastic Piping Installation industry. This short course is designed to refresh the skills and knowledge of the learner to current Polyethylene Butt Welding methods and guidelines to ensure correct procedures are being used. PSAH Training and Recruitment Pty Ltd use McElroy butt fusion machinery to deliver the Butt weld polyethylene plastic pipelines – 2-Year REFRESHER Course. Our trainers and assessors are certified McElroy butt welding instructors and we deliver our training and assessment in line with McElroy Manufacturing Industry guidelines, and the Plastics Industry Piping Association of Australia guidelines:

  • PIPA POP003 Butt fusion jointing of PE pipes and fittings – Recommended parameters
  • PIPA POP004 Polyethylene pipe and fitting compounds
  • PIPA POP 005 Packaging, handling and storage of polyethylene pipes and fittings
  • PIPA POP014 Assessment of polyethylene welds, and the International standard for Butt fusion of Polyethylene pipe
  • International standard for Butt fusion of Polyethylene pipe – ISO 21307-2017 Plastic pipes and fittings – Butt fusion jointing procedures for Polyethylene (PE) pipes and fittings used in the construction of gas and water distribution systems

Training is delivered via face to face training and assessment.

Unit Duration: This unit is designed to be completed in a day.

Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 8 hours, depending on existing knowledge, skills, and experience.

What will you learn in the PMBWELD301 refresher?

This unit is designed to refresh your expertise in industrial welding. Among others, your updated skills will allow you to:

  • Identify materials as being compatible for welding
  • Calculate appropriate pipe welding parameters
  • Maintain and calibrate welding equipment
  • Perform welding to required standard
  • Assess quality of completed joints

You will also learn basic chainsaw safety to satisfy the duty of care when cutting the pipework.

What are the entry requirements?

Prior to performing this activity the student MUST hold the PMBWELD301 Butt weld polyethylene plastic pipelines qualification or equivalent qualification and the student MUST supply a copy of this certificate or statement of attainment on the day of the course to successfully complete the course

To complete your unit, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • computer/laptop with relevant software such as, but not limited to, the following:
    • internet access through Google Chrome
    • MS Word and PowerPoint
    • Adobe Acrobat Reader
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) including:
    • Long pants
    • Long sleeves
    • Steel cap boots

On top of the resources for study, we also provide the following:

  • Morning tea supplied (Tea, coffee, and biscuits) but the students MUST supply their own lunch
  • There is a fridge and kitchen amenities available at the PSAH Training and Recruitment Pty Ltd facility

  • Onsite parking is limited at the PSAH Training and Recruitment Pty Ltd facility but there is parking available on Robson Street

 


What you need on the day of the course

For the class, students will need to bring a valid drivers licence or valid form of Identification (Government issued I.D. card), supply a copy of their PMBWELD301 Butt weld polyethylene plastic pipelines qualification or equivalent qualification, ensure they are fit to work and not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, and MUST supply their own lunch.

Is Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) available?

Due to the high-risk nature of the unit, RPL pathway is identical to the Assessment Only Pathway,
where students are required to complete the assessment activities as a challenge test of their existing knowledge and skills competency.
